Energy saving tips

In our capacity of your supplier of electricity we have summarized for you some valuable advices how to save energy.

Heating and ventilation

In order to heat efficiently residential premises, the heating units must be suitably located in the premises.

Windows should be fully opened for a short period of time. Windows left ajar for too long let off too much heat and little fresh air stays inside.

During nighttime the heating appliances temperatures must be lowered and the premises must not be totaly cooled down.

Windows and doors must be well insulated.

Home appliances

Changing an old TV with new one saves up to 80% of energy;

Old appliances consume during the stand-by regime about 150 kWh electricity per year. Compared to these appliances new ones consume significantly less electricity.

When you do not use TVs and radio sets they should be switched off. That saves money.


We do recommend usage of energy-saving bulbs and fixtures. For example an energy saving bulb of 20 W provides the same light as a lamp with heated wire with power of 100 W.

Attention: Frequent switching on and off of the energy saving bulb shortens its operational life.

Use of hot-plates and ovens

Ovens should be pre-heated in advance only in exceptional cases.

Heat is transmitted in the best way when the hot plate diameter is corresponding to the diameter of the unit placed upon it.

Switch-off the hot-plates before the end of boiling time and use the remaining heat.

In order to heat and boil portions up to 400 gr., the microwave oven needs less time than the hot plate.

When frying meat for shoter time use frying pan. Use of special meat containers in microwave oven will be more costly because the special containers must be heated eight to ten minutes at full power.

Preparing coffee in special coffee machines is up to 50 % cheaper, than boiling water on hot-plate.

Using deep-fryer instead of electric oven or hot-plate saves up to 25 % of electricity.

When boiling eggs use electric egg-boiling unit, which, compared to the big cooking pot, will save up to 50 % of electricity.

Using toaster is energy saving procedure too (about 70 %) compared to using an oven.

Usage of fridge and freezers

Fridges and freezers should not be located in immediate vicinity of heating units or ovens.

In non-heated premises with good ventilation you should normally have lowest electricity consumption from fridges and freezers.

In stationary units and units with lower parts you should keep the ventilation grid open in order to allow heat emitted by the appliance to circulate quickly.

Food products should be cooled and frozen only when properly packed.

Switching on level of cooling Super should take place only if big quantities are cooled.

Defective doors should be changed immediately.

Regular de-frosting is energy-saving operation.

Dish-washing machines

Previous hand washing with cold or warm water is not necessary.

For not very dirty plates it is normally sufficient to use saving or short program.

Laundry and drying

For normally dirty white laundry use the energy saving program or 60C temperature for washing.

Preliminary washing is necessary only for very dirty clothes.

Fill up the laundry machine to optimum quantities.

If you have small items for separate washing, select the shorter program, but pay attention: when using the short program twice more energy and water are consumed, than if using the normal program once.

Before placing the entire quantity of laundry in the tumble-dryer, let it have a full spin at the centrifugal program (if possible at 1200 revolutions, and minimum at 800 revolutions per minute).

Place the entire quantity of laundry in the dryer. If you place the same quantity at two times you will use about 30 % more electricity.

After each drying process clean the air filter (sieve for protection from dust), in order to avoid extension of drying time.

One more advice for using shower or bath tub: use of shower is more recommended than the use of bath tub. For a full bath tub (140-180 liters) you need about three times more energy than for taking one five minutes shower.
