Efficient use of electrical appliances in the household optimizes electricity costs
Cooker ovens and stoves are some of the most energy-intensive appliances in households, along with heaters and water heaters.
Although we do not often think about it in everyday life, if we take into account the required power and capacity of the appliances we use and if we retain heat for a longer time during cooking, the electricity consumption decreases significantly. This not only reduces electricity bills, but also extends the life of electrical appliances.
As part of the initiative for energy efficient consumption, ENERGO-PRO offers tips for saving electricity during cooking:
Make sure the pots and pans are flat-bottomed. If over time they have acquired any “bumps”, they will spend 50% more electricity than healthy ones. When boiling, put exactly the required amount of water, taking into account the possibility of swelling of the products. Good judgment can save an average of about 30% of electricity consumption. Use a saucepan with a diameter corresponding to that of the hob so that there is no loss of heat. If the diameters match, you save up to 25% electricity.Defrost food before you start cooking it and cut it into small pieces as far as the recipe allows - this significantly shortens the heat treatment time, and the savings are significant. Close the pan with a glass lid to monitor the process itself and to reduce the cooking time; in the oven the preparation time is shortened if you cover the dishes with foil. When cooking, turn off the heat 5 minutes earlier and use the residual heat. Thus, for 5 minutes of saving from each cooking, you will significantly reduce electricity bills.Preheat the oven in advance only exceptionally. Very often, preheating takes more than necessary time and leads to unnecessary costs. Less often open the oven during baking. You can put a special thermometer, with the help of which to monitor the normal operation of the oven. For faster cooking, use the upper shelves of the oven, which are located closer to the heaters. This reduces the cooking time by about 20%. Simultaneous preparation of two dishes in the oven saves electricity and time. Use the residual heat of the oven. If you turn off the oven 10 minutes before the end of the baking time, you will save up to 20% of the amount you pay for electricity for its operation. Example: If you use a 3.2 kW oven. an average of one hour a day, turning it off every day 10 minutes earlier will save the appliance 61 hours in operating mode or 195.2 kWh of electricity. This is almost as much as your appliances spend in stand-by mode per year.In case you bake frequently, get a hot air oven that will allow you to bake the dishes evenly and at a lower temperature. This will save you up to 40% of the required electricity.Do not use the electric stove for everything if you have a toaster, electric kettle. With the kettle you can quickly heat the cooking water. Small appliances have less power, are designed to prepare a small amount of food in a relatively short time and consume less electricity. When frying meat for a short time, using a frying pan instead of a deeper dish saves electricity. For dishes that cook for a long time, use a pressure cooker if possible. Making coffee in a coffee machine is 50% cheaper than boiling water on a stove. When boiling eggs, it is better to use an electric egg cooker, with which, compared to a saucepan, you will save up to 50% electricity.Using a deep fryer instead of an electric stove saves up to 25% energy.Baking the slices with a toaster is also foaming is energy-saving (by about 70%) compared to the oven.Check and replace damaged oven seals.
The implementation of the tips for saving electricity and the use, if possible, of high energy class electrical appliances will optimize electricity costs. The right choice of power and size of appliances would help to achieve a significant effect in terms of energy efficiency.
