Elektrodistribuenie North invests nearly BGN 50,000 in securing the grid in Razgrad region

From the end of July, the teams of ERP North started installing spacers and bird protection devices on the 20 kV “Osenets” overhead line on the territory of Razgrad district. The power line provides power to four settlements on the territory of the district. Passing through the town of Tsar Kaloyan and the villages of Osenets, Balkanski and Ezerche, it supplies electricity to more than 4,000 households. The investments will reduce disruptions to the power grid caused by strong winds and limit the risk of birds falling under pressure. In order to secure this section, it is planned to place more than 50 insulation devices along the air network. The process will be finalized in late autumn after harvesting the corn and sunflower crops grown near the power line.
In 2020, in implementation of its investment and repair program on the territory of Razgrad region, Elektrodistribuenie North plans to install a total of 600 safety devices. To protect against bad weather conditions, the installation of spacers on a total of three power lines in the area is provided, and for the protection of birds - the placement of bird guards along a total of 7 power lines. The total investment for the region is expected to reach BGN 50,000. The implementation of these measures aims to significantly reduce short-term power supply disruptions caused by birds and strong winds.
The activities for securing the overhead power lines (ELVs) in the territory and in the other areas served by ERP North in North-East Bulgaria continue. In the last month, bird protection devices were also installed on the Presovo wind turbine in Veliko Tarnovo region, and in Debelec electricians restored a nest that fell due to the strong wind. In all possible cases, work is carried out by trained teams under special conditions without switching off the voltage, so as not to disturb the power supply of customers. The measures are aimed at ensuring safe conditions for birds as they congregate on overhead lines before they fly south at the end of summer. The actual work on projects of the EPP North for the protection of birds from exposure to voltage in the range of electricity distribution facilities is coming after the autumn migration.
