ENERGO-PRO gives advice on energy-efficient operation of water heaters
As the weather cools, household electricity costs increase. In this regard, ENERGO-PRO advises its customers on how to most rationally apply the principles of energy efficiency in the daily use of electrical appliances in the home. The desired result is both environmental protection globally and the immediate benefit of reducing electricity bills in the home. One of the commonly used appliances with high electricity consumption is the water heater, here are some tips on how to make it function as efficiently as possible:
• Take into account the operation of the water heater with the time of the night tariff, which is lower and in the winter period is from 22:00 to 6:00 hours. Modern water heaters have good insulation, which retains the heat of the water even the next day.
• Do not keep the water heater constantly on, because the thermostat will continue to turn on and off, which will lead to excessive consumption of electricity and excessive scale buildup.
• Once a year, drain the water heater tank to remove accumulated sediment, especially in areas with calcareous water. So you will facilitate heat transfer and preserve the efficiency of the unit.
• Insulate the hot water pipe of the water heater if it is longer and the unit is located in a cold room — this will reduce the likelihood of unnecessary cooling of the water. As a rule, short pipes imply less loss of hot water.
• In the kitchen, use a quick-heating (instantaneous) water heater with a capacity of 5-10 liters, which provides hot water at the moment, without preheating.
• When using small amounts of water in the kitchen, place the mixer lever in the cold position. So you do not pay for hot water that does not reach the tap.
• The quality of the faucet, sprinkler and shower head is also important — in the event of a leak or splashing to the side, unnecessary costs of both electricity and water are generated.
• In the event that the operation of the old water heater is inefficient and is associated with a lot of loss of electricity, the investment in a new high-class energy-efficient appliance is justified and will lead to savings in the future.
• When buying, judge the size of the water heater according to the size and needs of the household to prevent unjustifiably high electricity bills.
• Set the thermostat temperature within the optimal values of 50-70 degrees and adjust according to daily consumption and needs.
ENERGO-PRO advises to be interested in the specifications of the electrical appliances you buy, indicated on the so-called energy labels. According to them, appliances are divided into groups from A (the most economical) to G (with the highest consumption). Recently, due to the increased energy efficiency of many products, more and more pluses have been added (A+, A++, A+++). In order not to confuse users, a decision was made in the next few years to discontinue the use of these classes. The new system will return to classes A to G without the pros, although this classification will continue to be used in parallel with the current classes for some time. Energy labels allow consumers to choose products that consume less energy and save money.
