ENERGO-PRO reported an increase in electricity consumption on the territory of North-East Bulgaria during the Christmas and New Year holidays in 2025—2026 compared to the previous holiday season 2024—2025, according to the summary data of the electricity distribution company.

In the days from 24 to 26 December 2025, ENERGO-PRO customers consumed nearly 66,000 megawatt hours of electricity, an increase of about 9% compared to the same period in 2024, when consumption was just over 60,000 megawatt hours.

The highest daily consumption during the Christmas holidays of 2025 was recorded on December 24, which corresponds to the traditional trend of increased consumption on the eve of the holiday.

In the period from 31 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, the total amount of electricity consumed amounted to 110 509 megawatt hours, which is about 6% more than the 104 182 megawatt hours recorded for the New Year holidays in the period from 31 December 2024 to 4 January 2025.

As in previous years, higher consumption was recorded on the last day of the year — December 31, compared to the first days of the new year.

A major factor in the reported increase in electricity consumption is the lower average daily temperatures during the holiday periods. According to data from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), average daily temperatures during the Christmas and New Year holidays 2025—2026 were several degrees lower compared to the same periods of 2024—2025, which led to a more intensive use of electricity for heating.

The most noticeable increase in electricity consumption during the holidays was recorded in Varna district, where lower temperatures and higher consumption had the strongest impact on the overall load on the grid.
