ENERGO-PRO registers nearly 6% increased electricity consumption during the Christmas holidays compared to last year
On average, about 6% more electricity was consumed by ENERGO-PRO customers during the holidays 24-26 December 2018 compared to the same period in 2017. This is shown by the data of the network company ERP North, which supplies electricity to more than 1.1 million consumers in the districts of Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Ruse, Silistra, Dobrich, Razgrad, Targovishte and Shumen. For the three Christmas holidays, the total amount of electricity consumed by ENERGO-PRO customers in North-East Bulgaria was nearly 57,400 megawatt hours. In the same days of 2017, just over 54,000 megawatt hours were consumed.
Unlike previous years, when the usual peak of the three holidays was Christmas Eve consumption, in 2018 ENERGO-PRO customers consumed the most electricity on December 26. The likely reason for this is that on the third holiday day, the average air temperatures in the territory served by the company dropped significantly compared to the previous two days.
The positive difference of nearly 6% increased electricity consumption during the period 24-26 December compared to last year is due, according to the company's experts, to the fact that the average daily temperatures in 2018 during the holidays were nearly 4 degrees lower than in 2017. The highest percentage difference in consumption is observed in Dobrich district, where the growth is close to 20%, and the lowest — in Varna — less than 1%.
On the eve of the New Year holidays, 62 emergency teams of ERP North, equipped with the necessary materials and tools, continue to be in full readiness to react in a timely manner in case of damage to electrical facilities in North-East Bulgaria.
