ERP North and the regional administrations in Shumen, Silistra, and Ruse coordinate measures to prevent power outages

Representatives of ERP North held a series of working meetings with the regional governors of Shumen, Silistra, and Ruse, heads of state forestry enterprises, and representatives of relevant institutions. The main focus of the discussions was preventive action to limit outages by timely marking and removing hazardous trees near overhead power lines. The meetings were attended by the Chairman of the Management Board of ERP North, Atanas Kolev, Management Board member Mario Marinov, representatives of local ERP North structures, network management and forestry experts, as well as heads of state forestry and hunting enterprises in the three regions. ERP North presented the progress of these activities. Attention was drawn to trees located outside of easement zones, which can cause serious accidents and power interruptions during strong winds, snowfall, or icing, and for the removal of which ERP North is seeking additional assistance from the meeting participants.

In the Silistra region, the highest percentage of all marked hazardous trees has been removed. Thanks to consistent preventive work, the region avoided large-scale outages during the 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 winter seasons.

During the meeting in Shumen, the regional governor expressed readiness to assist in accelerating the inspection of critical sections. An order is to be issued for the formation of an inter-institutional commission involving ERP North, state forestry enterprises, and other competent institutions, which will outline specific measures to mitigate risk.

In Ruse, the regional governor committed to taking urgent action to accelerate the clearing of trees threatening critical infrastructure. It was agreed that the necessary activities would begin as soon as possible to reduce the risk of outages before the autumn-winter season.

The meeting participants agreed on the need for closer coordination between responsible institutions and the search for practical solutions to accelerate the process, including by securing additional resources from state forestry enterprises and utilizing legal mechanisms for the timely removal of hazardous vegetation. ERP North consistently invests in the preventive maintenance of the power distribution infrastructure and works in cooperation with state and local institutions to increase network resilience and the security of power supply during adverse weather conditions.
