By the end of 2025, ERP North has secured a total of 4,590 pillars, 704 of which are steel bars. The activities are part of the EU LIFE Programme project “Safe Sky for Birds in North-East Bulgaria” and are implemented in partnership with the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB). The main objective of the project is to prevent mortality among 16 globally endangered bird species caused by electric shock and collision with overhead power lines by applying best practices among modern solutions for their protection.

1152 marking devices (diverters) were installed in the areas of Bulgarevo - Cape Kaliakra and Kalimok-Brashlyan. In addition, information signs have been placed on transformer substations and steel grid poles, in order to better inform and clearly indicate the facilities.

Care for the environment and protection of protected species is a priority in the company's work. In the spring months, electricians of ERP North in cooperation with experts from BSPB installed a total of 150 nesting boxes for birds in 40 separate locations in the regions of Veliko Tarnovo, Dobrich, Ruse and Silistra. The aim was to provide safe nesting conditions for two of the endangered feathered species included in the project list — red-footed kestrels and bluebirds. Already with the warming of the weather at the end of April, a large part of the installed houses was settled.

Securing facilities from the power grid is important both for preserving the life and population of endangered bird species and for its trouble-free operation. With the project “Safe Sky for Birds in North-East Bulgaria”, EPR North contributes to the protection of biodiversity among feathered animals, while preventing unplanned power outages due to bird collisions with overhead power lines, which increases the security of electricity supply to customers.

Additional information about the project is also available in the customer centers of ENERGO-PRO in Varna, Varna Towers and Dobrich, where there are information points with available brochures, from which customers can learn more about the initiative. In addition to key and easily accessible locations, information signs detailing the project and bird protection measures have been installed on EPP North's power poles and substations.
