During the summer months, the risks of accidents occurring near facilities on the electricity distribution network increase significantly. The reasons for this are the increased volume of outdoor activities, such as organized events, agricultural events (including harvesting), construction and others. In this regard, EPR North recalls certain safety rules for activities near power lines and requires their strict observance.

According to Art. 761 of Ordinance No. 9 of June 9, 2004 on the technical operation of power plants and networks and Ordinance No. 16 of June 9, 2004 on the easements of energy objects, it is not allowed in the easement zone of overhead power lines to carry out construction works, storage of waste and materials, construction of temporary facilities, parking of machines and equipment, as well as the use of large-sized equipment. Actions of third parties on the facilities of energy objects are also unacceptable. In the wind, the wires of the power line can sway and the safe distances can be reduced, and a volt arc is possible to form even in the absence of direct contact depending on the voltage of the overhead line. Therefore, compliance with this requirement of the Ordinance is extremely important in order to protect the life and health of residents.

When planning activities near power lines, it is mandatory to know the heights of the means of transport, other types of equipment used and agricultural equipment, including the maximum gauge of the extending parts of the machines. In the case of uneven terrain, it is necessary to provide an additional safe distance to the parts of the network under tension, and in case of dangerous maneuvers, to provide an observation person. The signals that are given by this person with their hands must be accurate, simple and easy both to carry out and to understand. If necessary, request the disconnection and securing of the power lines by the EPP North.

What to do in case your vehicle or other facility comes under voltage? Keep calm and, if possible, move away from the danger zone. The voltage decreases the farther it is from the source. When stepping from one voltage level to another, the body becomes a path for electricity. The safest way to move away from the vehicle is by keeping both feet together or as close as possible when leaving the area. The correct ways are to bounce with your legs together or slide them along the ground so that the toes of the back foot are as close as possible (touch) to the heel of the front foot.

If you step outside the facility or machine under voltage, electricity will flow through your body to the ground and the result will be an electric shock. In such cases, it is safe to use a mobile phone to seek help. For emergencies, contact 112 or the relevant electricity distribution company. The 24-hour telephone line of ERP North AD is 0700 161 61. Warn other persons who may be nearby to stay away (at least 10 m from the vehicle) and wait until employees from the electricity distribution company arrive to make sure the power line is cut off.

ERP North carries out continuous monitoring of electricity distribution facilities in its licensed territory in order to secure them. In order to prevent the risk of accidents due to power surges, the company urges those working near power lines to familiarize themselves with the safety rules in advance and to comply all their activities with the regulations for the technical operation of the networks.
