The company uses 100% green energy = 12,000 MWh in 2021, produced entirely from renewable sources

Nestle Bulgaria received a certificate for the use of 100% green energy, which guarantees that the company promotes the production of electricity from renewable sources in Bulgaria - solar energy, wind and hydropower plants. ENERGO-PRO Energy Services is the supplier from which Nestle Bulgaria purchases the guarantees of origin of electricity, providing 12,000 MW of green electricity in 2021. Thanks to the cooperation between the two companies in the field of electricity sales, Nestlé Bulgaria promotes emission-free production, which saves about 14,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.

“The Nestlé Group has a strong commitment to nature and achieving zero negative impact on it, and we are taking many steps to achieve this both globally and locally. The use of green energy is not a fashion trend! Receiving this certificate is proof of how seriously we declare our commitments in terms of carbon emissions and their reduction.”, said Petar Stoilov — CEO of Nestle Bulgaria during the official presentation of the certificate by Boyan Karshakov.

“Nestle Bulgaria ranks among the major consumers of green energy in Bulgaria and we are proud that it has sustainable policies for environmental protection, one of which is the use of energy from renewable sources, reaching 100% or 12,000 MWh by 2021”, commented Mr. Boyan Karshakov, Manager of ENERGO-PRO Energy Services EAD.

The generation of the load of the electricity system in the country from renewable sources on average annually varies in the range of 17-18% of domestic consumption, and the development in the last 3 years is dynamic. The amount of energy required for a customer like Nestle Bulgaria is equivalent to the annual production of a 9 megawatt photovoltaic park or a 5 megawatt wind power plant.

Globally, the company's goal is to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This is part of the Paris Agreement's most ambitious goal — limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C. Nestle Bulgaria continues to invest in innovative technologies and industrial equipment that are beneficial to the environment and water resources. Thus, compared to 2010, Nestle Bulgaria has reduced its water consumption by 66%, and in 2020, every minute Nestle's factory in Sofia consumed 188 liters less water. Nestlé Bulgaria is constantly improving its production operations in order to reduce water consumption, carbon emissions and contribute to both environmental protection and improving the lifestyle of current and future generations.
