Low temperatures over the weekend increased electricity consumption in North-Eastern Bulgaria by about 21 percent
The sharp decrease in temperatures on weekends increased consumption in the territory served by ENERGO-PRO. The company supplies electricity to the districts of Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Ruse, Silistra, Dobrich, Razgrad, Targovishte and Shumen.
For the period 4 - 6 October 2013 consumption in North-Eastern Bulgaria increased by about 21%, compared to the same period last year. During these three days, the maximum load on the electricity distribution network reached over 950 megawatts. Loads of this order are typical for the winter months.
The unusually low average daily temperatures in the last days in North-Eastern Bulgaria are the cause of higher loads compared to the same period last year. During the three days of this year, average daily temperatures were 11.5 degrees lower compared to the same days last year. In addition, it should be noted that in 2013 the period covers two days off, when household consumption rises. The same period of 2012 covers only one day off.
If the trend of decreasing temperatures continues until the end of October compared to the same period last year, this will lead to higher consumption and, consequently, to higher bills, especially for domestic customers, whose consumption is most affected by external temperatures.
