On average, about 21% less electricity was consumed by ENERGO-PRO customers in the territory of North-East Bulgaria during the two holidays 31 December — 1 January compared to the previous year. The company also reported a decrease during the Christmas holidays, when the difference with 2016 was about 14%.

The biggest decrease was registered in Dobrich region, where the decline was about 30%, and in Varna — over 26%. In the remaining seven districts of the territory served by ENERGO-PRO, electricity consumption during the New Year holidays in 2017 was between 12 and 19 percent lower than in 2016.

The total amount of electricity consumed by ENERGO-PRO customers during the two holidays of this year is nearly 35,000 megawatt hours, while last year it was about 44,500 megawatt hours. Traditionally on New Year's Eve, December 31, consumption is higher than on the second holiday day — January 1.

The main factor for the reported drop in consumption, according to the specialists of the electricity distribution company, is the significantly higher average daily temperatures on the two holidays of this year compared to last year. In the period December 31, 2016 — January 1, 2017, the average temperature in North-Eastern Bulgaria was below zero — about -2.5 degrees, and during the New Year holidays this year the thermometers reported an average of 5.2 degrees Celsius. The reported difference is of an average of 8 degrees higher temperatures in 2017-2018 compared to the New Year holidays in 2016-2017.
