This year we celebrate 100 years of the electrification of Varna
Meeting of Generations of Energetics and Opening of Exhibition organized by ENERGO-PRO
The 100th anniversary of the electrification of Varna is celebrated in 2013. On this occasion yesterday (August 14), at the entrance of the sea garden, ENERGO-PRO organized a meeting of the generations of energy professionals and opened an exhibition entitled “Varna — 100 years of energy and light”. The official guest of the event was Mr. Ivan Portnich, Mayor of Varna Municipality.
In 1883, the first diesel-electric power plant was built in the Euxinograd Palace near Varna. The beginning of electric lighting was laid — the symbol of the era of electrification in Bulgaria.
Thirty years later, in 1913, the City Power Plant was put into operation. In homes and on the streets of the city, the first lamps are lit. Thus was the beginning of the actual electrification of the city of Varna.
“The electrification of the city of Varna is a revolutionary undertaking for its time, which has radically changed the quality of life of the inhabitants of the city. This is an important historical moment for all residents of Varna, so we chose to celebrate the 100th anniversary on the eve of the official holiday of Varna”, said Stefan Abadzhiev, Manager of ENERGO-PRO Varna EOOD.
During the celebration, a general photo of the generations of power engineers was taken, which will leave its mark on the history of the electrification of the city. “In a specific sector such as electricity, continuity between generations is very important for the development of the industry. It is also a way to build successful current and future specialists.”, noted the manager of ENERGO-PRO Varna EOOD.
The culmination of the holiday was the takeoff of 100 balloons in the form of light bulbs. “Our idea was to symbolically “close” a 100-year history that generations before us “wrote” and make a transition to the new century of electrification of Varna. This is our time and our responsibility is what we will leave to the next generations.”, added Mr. Abadzhiev.
