Electricity consumption in Northeastern Bulgaria decreased by 14% during the Christmas holidays compared to 2016
ENERGO-PRO customers consumed about 14% less electricity during the holidays from 24 to 26 December compared to the same period in 2016. This is according to the data of the company, which serves more than 1.1 million consumers in the districts of Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Ruse, Silistra, Dobrich, Razgrad, Targovishte and Shumen.
During the three Christmas holidays, ENERGO-PRO customers consumed about 54,000 megawatt hours of electricity. In the same days of 2016, a total of 63,000 megawatt hours were consumed, which is a difference of 9,000 megawatt hours or 14%. Traditionally, consumption was highest on December 24 — Christmas Eve, when the company reported consumption of nearly 20,000 megawatt hours.
The most serious is the decrease in consumption in Dobrich district, where the company registered a drop of more than 22%. In Razgrad, on the other hand, there was a decrease in consumption of 18% in the period 24-26 December, compared to the same days of 2016.
The reason for the significantly lower consumption this year, according to the specialists of ENERGO-PRO, is the significantly higher average daily temperatures recorded in the territory of North-East Bulgaria in 2017 compared to 2016. For the days from 24 to 26 December 2016, the average temperature was slightly below 0 degrees, while this year it was above 6.6 degrees, which makes a positive difference of nearly 7 degrees Celsius.
64 emergency teams of ENERGO-PRO Grids continue to be on duty and are fully prepared to respond in a timely manner in case of damage to electrical facilities in North-East Bulgaria in the days before and during the upcoming New Year holidays.
