For another year, ENERGO-PRO has installed storks in various places in North-East Bulgaria. At the beginning of September, the company's teams installed manshones and bird guards on a 20 kV power line in the village of Aleksandria, Dobrichka municipality, which guarantees the safety of the protected species during the flyover in the area.

During the autumn migration of storks, which usually begins at the end of August, a large number of birds flock in flocks on the electric poles for rest and overnight. In order to protect their lives, the facilities shall be secured by the installation of bird guards, cuffs and other protective devices which prevent short circuits from occurring as a result of the birds coming into contact with live parts of the power line.

Birds' preferred landing areas during overflight change seasonally, making them difficult to predict. The company relies on the competent cooperation of institutions and environmental organizations that monitor the route of birds and indicate the places where it is necessary to secure the electric poles.

It is known that Bulgaria is the country over which the Via Pontica passes - the largest migratory flow of the species from Europe to Africa. Here the birds of the eastern migratory population gather and form huge flocks along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Every year ENERGO-PRO Grids takes a number of preventive measures to secure as many electrical poles as possible in order to protect the population of the protected species.

ENERGO-PRO specialists always respond to assist municipalities and non-governmental organizations in providing assistance to distressed or homeless storks.

In recent years, the utility has installed hundreds of stork nesting platforms in North-Eastern Bulgaria. They provide safe homes where stork families nest and raise their offspring. At the same time, bird-induced accidents and power outages in populated areas are prevented.

ENERGO-PRO Networks has re-signed a cooperation agreement with the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, according to which 1000 new platforms for stork nests will be installed on the power poles in Northeastern Bulgaria in the next few years. 300 of them will be positioned in the area of Durankulak and Shablen Lake.
