The commissioning of the two facilities will improve the power supply of over 65,000 customers

A new power transformer of the latest generation weighing 85 tons is to be installed by Elektrodistribuenie Sever at Chaika substation in Varna. It was delivered with specialized transport equipment this past weekend. The new equipment was manufactured this year at the plant of SGB Smith International GmbH — Romania. At the end of the month, the same transformer model will be transported and installed in the Varna East substation again in the seaside town. The replacement of the two facilities will improve the power supply of more than 65,000 customers in the central part of Varna, as well as in the neighborhoods of Chaika, Saltanat, Levski, Izgrev and Tsveten quarter.

Maintaining the transformers used so far costs a lot of effort and expense, making them less efficient. New facilities have a number of advantages with their technical parameters. Their rated power is 40/50 MVA (megavoltampere), they generate three times less losses and guarantee a high degree of security of power supply to consumers.

The installation of the two transformers, in addition to improving the quality and security of electricity supply to consumers, will allow the connection of new sites to the electricity distribution network in the areas that are supplied by the two substations. At the same time, conditions will be created for the development of the medium-voltage network and the redirection of capacities for newly joined customers in the districts of Briz, Trakata and Vinitsa.

The total investment in the modern facilities is BGN 2.4 million, and it is expected that they will be put into operation by mid-August 2021.
