The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology warns of a worsening of the climate situation over the next day

An orange and yellow code is announced for most of the country tomorrow (14.06.2024). In the whole of Eastern Bulgaria, the warning is of the second degree. Intense and significant precipitation is expected with the development of thunderstorms. There will also be conditions for hail. The amount of precipitation for the day will be 20-35 mm, in individual areas it will reach 50-60 mm. A yellow code will be in force in Central Bulgaria. The expected amount of precipitation there is 20-35 mm.

Often, a sharp change in weather is accompanied by violent gusts of wind. These climatic phenomena have a serious impact on electricity supply facilities and, above all, on overhead power lines. ERP North urges its customers to exercise maximum caution in the event of a storm or other natural element in order to prevent electrical accidents. In view of its specific activity, the company provides useful and practical security advice in the event of such situations:

  • In case you find yourself in an area where a storm is raging, stay as far away as possible from wires, electrical poles, substations and other facilities that are part of the electricity distribution network;
  • If you notice a torn wire, do not approach it less than 10 meters and take measures to prevent third parties from accessing the danger zone. Contact Electricity Distribution North in a timely manner on the 24-hour telephone 0700 161 61 or on the national emergency telephone 112;
  • Do not step barefoot near an electrical wire. If, in the interests of public safety, the wire has to be moved and it is not possible to wait for the arrival of the specialized teams, it is necessary to do this with caution, using a plastic or completely dry wooden object with a length of not less than 2 meters;
  • Do not touch metal structures, fences, railings and other metal enclosures;
  • If you are at home during a thunderstorm, it is advisable to unplug the electrical appliances that are most affected by external surges — TV, computer, air conditioning, CD.

Increased attention and compliance with safety rules will prevent accidents in which there is a risk of death or injury to people, but also save time without electricity to customers. Electricity Distribution North once again calls on all companies that own large-sized equipment to strictly observe safety regulations and work with caution near power lines.

In the event of crisis situations related to storms and deterioration of the climatic situation, customers should bear in mind that it is possible to encounter difficulties in connecting to the 24/7 call center of ERP North. In case of excessive load on telephone lines, the company is ready to provide an additional telephone for emergency alerts. Information on the current situation on the electricity distribution network will be published regularly on the website of ERP North.
