The power supply of Shumen water supply facilities will be suspended at the request of the electricity supplier KUMER OOD

On May 17, 2023, a phased shutdown of the electricity supply to Shumen water supply facilities began, which is in response to the request of the current electricity supplier of the water supply company KUMER OOD. The interruption will affect pumping stations of Shumen Water Supply, which means that a number of customers of Shumen Water Supply will be left without water supply due to non-payment of obligations by the company. The final measure is taken by the electricity supplier in order to limit the huge debt accumulated so far for consumed electricity. ERP North, the electricity distribution company of the ENERGO-PRO Varna group, as a licensed network provider for the territory, has a legal obligation to fulfill the request of a provider for interruption due to non-payment and will comply with its prescription.

Discontinuation of the electricity supply to the pumping stations of Shumen water supply according to a previously prepared schedule will be for the following settlements: Shumen — part of the city, mainly the higher parts, approximately one third of the settlement; Veliki Preslav — almost the entire city; Novi Pazar — part of the city, mainly the higher parts, approximately one third of the settlement; part of the settlements on the territory of the following municipalities — the Municipality of Hitrino, the Municipality of Kaolinovo and the Municipality of Venets.

In the event that KUMER Ltd. receives a request for restoration of the electricity supply, ERP North is ready to respond to the request immediately, bearing in mind that when switched on, the same will not lead to immediate restoration of the water supply due to the lack of such technical capability of the pumping facilities.

Notifications of the initial exclusions in these areas have been published on the EPP North website:

17.05.2023 — from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

18.05.2023 — from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

In the absence of payment or agreement with the supplier by Shumen Plumbing, the interruption will continue from 22.05.2023 at 10:00 a.m. until extension, according to the announced schedule by KUMER Ltd. Without water supply, parts of the settlements listed above will remain, the pumping stations of which will be with the power supply turned off.

About the unfavorable situation created for the residents of the affected settlements and in an attempt to help solve the problem, ERP North repeatedly alerted the responsible institutions Bulgarian Water Holding, MRRB, Ministry of Energy, EWRD, DANS, Shumen Regional Administration, Shumen Municipality, RD Fire Safety and Protection of the Population with copy to Shumen Plumbing.
