ENERGO-PRO installs new power transformer in Varna East substation

The facility will provide a more reliable and secure power supply to the city's nearly 25,000 residents

A new power transformer of the latest generation, weighing 85 tons, has already been installed by ENERGO-PRO Networks in Varna East substation. This is the third transformer of this type, and the other two were installed at substations Varna South and Veliko Tarnovo respectively in early June. The new equipment was manufactured in 2012 at the plant of SGB Smith International GmbH — Germany.

“The old transformer in Varna East substation was technically and morally obsolete. Keeping it in working order required effort and created too many costs, which made it ineffective. The most significant advantages of the new facility are its technical parameters. Its rated power is 40/50 MVA (megavoltampere) and guarantees a high degree of security of power supply to consumers. Its installation will make it possible to take on a significantly greater load on the network and will allow the connection of new users.”, said Martin Mirchev, member of the Management Board of ENERGO-PRO Networks AD.

The commissioning of the new power transformer at Varna East substation will significantly increase the quality and security of power supply to nearly 25 thousand customers in the Levski and Izgrev districts, as well as part of the Chaika district. At the same time, it will significantly reduce the number of breakdowns in the area and create conditions for the development of the medium-voltage network.

Currently, all three transformers are completed, and tests have already been carried out at the Varna South substation before the commissioning of the facility. Such tests will also be carried out at Varna East substation and Veliko Tarnovo substation. The three transformers are expected to be commissioned by mid-July 2013.

With the installation of the new power transformers ENERGO-PRO continues its policy of renovation and development of the electricity distribution network in the territory of North-East Bulgaria. The total value of the investment in the new facilities is BGN 3.6 million, and putting them into operation will guarantee a more reliable and secure power supply to more than 76,000 customers of the company.
