ENERGO-PRO installs new, modern short-circuit protection devices in “Leventa” substation - Ruse
The substation supplies electricity to nearly 32 thousand customers in the area of the city of Ruse
Modern digital devices for differential protection of transformers against short circuit are installed by ENERGO-PRO in the substation “Leventa” in the city of Ruse. The electricity distribution company invested nearly 20 thousand leva in the project.
A substation is a facility, part of the electricity distribution network, which has the function of receiving, converting and distributing electrical energy. As is known, the electricity that reaches our homes must be of low voltage — 230 or 380 volts, depending on whether we get a single-phase or three-phase power supply. But different types of power plants generate high-voltage electrical energy, which is carried over an electrical network adapted to operate at 110 kV. To be transferred to the power distribution network, electricity must be transformed to an average voltage - 20 kV. It is this transformation, from high to medium voltage, that takes place in the substations. The electrical energy is then carried along the power lines to the hundreds of substations, where it again undergoes a transformation and through the network low voltage reaches our homes.
The facilities of the electricity distribution network must be kept in working order to receive constant electricity. When they occur, however rare, substation accidents are long-lasting and affect entire regions. That is why it is important not only to precisely install and maintain substations, but that the facilities in them are regularly updated and replaced with the latest equipment.
The protective mechanisms installed in the Leventa substation are of great importance for ensuring a constant power supply - they reduce the time during which the power supply to customers can be cut off and limit the damage to the equipment itself in the event of breakdowns.
The advantage of the new digital devices lies in their functions, which give reliable two-sided protection to the facilities in the substation — in the high voltage part and in the medium voltage part. The devices are high-speed and react extremely quickly in the event of a problem with the installations. In this way, accidents are prevented from occurring, even under adverse circumstances, for example, in deteriorating weather conditions.
The new equipment guarantees a higher security of electricity supply to nearly 32 thousand customers of ENERGO-PRO Networks in the area of the city of Ruse.
