ENERGO-PRO Grids installs platforms for stork nests in Shumen

Today (October 2) employees of ENERGO-PRO Networks in Shumen installed platforms for stork nests in the district “Makak”. One of the platforms aims to secure a stork's nest on an electric pole at ul. “Chavdar”, and the other was placed to restore a dilapidated nest on st. “Elin Pelin”. The relocation of the existing nest and the restoration of the destroyed one was carried out with the assistance of specialists from the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water - the city of Shumen.

The white stork is one of the two protected stork species included in the Red Book of Bulgaria. Over the past 30 years, there has been a migration of nesting sites in the protected species to facilities of the electricity distribution network. Often, the branches of the sockets located on the poles touch the wires, cause a short circuit and burn out. Placing stork nests on platforms, on the one hand, protects the birds from becoming stressed and conserves their population, and on the other - prevents the occurrence of accidents on the power distribution network and power outages.

In order not to disturb the nesting period, the assembly is carried out before the spring and after the autumn migration of birds. On the territory of Shumen district, in recent years the company has installed 15 platforms. By the end of 2012 and in the spring of 2013, it is planned to place another 20. This will complete the process of securing the existing stork nests located on the electrical poles in the area.
