ENERGO-PRO continues to secure the power grid during the autumn migration of birds
In late summer, white storks gather in groups to fly away to warmer southern countries. Usually this happens around settlements, on stubble and in places where they can gain height from warm air flows. Our country is one of the key for birds, passing through it a large part of the population of the white stork nesting in Europe. The main migration route passes through the territory of Bulgaria - Via Pontica. Most flying birds are looking for the most suitable path in terms of air flows in the easternmost part of the continent. These conditions are met by the Black Sea coast. But when migratory birds land on poles to rest, they touch the air wires, which leads to interruptions or interruptions in the power supply and is dangerous for the birds themselves. This made it necessary during the migration, in order to protect the life and population of the beautiful birds, specialists of ENERGO-PRO Grids to install facilities that limit or make it safe for storks to land on poles of the electricity distribution network. On the pillars of the outlet “Novakovo 2", near the Aksakovskaya panorama, in August, 13 birdhouses were installed.
The tendency of white storks in our country to leave the trees as a nesting place and build their homes on electric poles, and less often - on chimneys and roofs continues. In order not to disturb the nesting period, the installation and maintenance of stork nest platforms on the poles is carried out before the spring and after the autumn migration of birds. However, it is often necessary for the electricians of ENERGO-PRO Grids to respond to emergency situations.
Throughout the summer, ENERGO-PRO specialists assist municipalities and non-governmental organizations in providing assistance to distressed or homeless storks. A nesting platform was installed in the village of Kalimantsi. In the village of Izvorovo, Antonovo municipality, another stork family raised their generation in a “new home”, built as a matter of urgency with the help of electricians of the company. In the city of Lyaskovets, specialists from ENERGO-PRO Networks twice returned a small stork that fell into the nest. Together with the municipality of Nikola Kozlevo, a team of the company from Shumen urgently installed a platform for a stork nest in the village of Valnari. A young pair of birds had made a nest on a pole of low-voltage network in the village. The nest was in dangerous proximity to the wires and threatened both stork life and network security. In the village of Iliya Blaskovo, 2 nesting platforms for storks were installed. A similar was the case at Kozarevets station, where a nest of storks was also built on a pole of an overhead power line “Baniska” near the village. The power line is 52 kilometers long and supplies electricity to a large number of customers from six settlements. In order to protect stork life and guarantee quality power supply, the teams of ENERGO-PRO Networks from Ruse secured the insulators and wires of the stork pole chosen for nesting from the family. In the town of Marten, 2 nesting platforms were installed, and on the territory of the town of Byala, Russensko 6 more.
As the owner of facilities preferred for nesting by the white stork, ENERGO-PRO takes a responsible approach to this activity and works in cooperation with a number of organizations such as Green Balkans, the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, ecologists and experts to municipalities. After the birds have flown away, ENERGO-PRO continues the conservation activities of the species. Specialists of the company will secure sockets and install platforms on poles of the power distribution network. This prevents the risk of short circuits on the air network and protects the life and offspring of birds.
