Elektrodistribuenie North installs bird protection devices, spacers and insulators on the medium-voltage overhead wires from the electricity distribution network in the areas around the villages of Krumovo, Novakovo and Ignatievo in Varna region. The value of the project to provide a safe environment for birds in the region exceeds BGN 25,000. It is part of the company's renovation program for 2020. What is specific in this case is that the activities are carried out by a specialized group of EPR North for working under voltage, with the installation works carried out under voltage, and the power line being worked on is introduced into a special operating mode and the power supply to the subscribers is not interrupted. The aim is not to disrupt the normal supply of electricity to customers connected to the respective overhead power lines. The group is equipped with special protective clothing, has undergone a training course on the specifics of working under tension and has a high-end lifting truck with an insulated platform.

Bird protection devices protect the life and health of birds by preventing them from landing near the elements of overhead power lines (ELVs) where the risk of exposure to voltage is highest, or, in the event of landing, protecting them from being energized. At the same time, they ensure the normal operation of power transmission equipment, minimizing the number of emergency shutdowns and unforeseen damage due to bird landings. Spacers are placed for the purpose of continuous operation of the wind turbine in bad weather conditions, such as strong wind and heavy snowfall, as well as when a large number of birds land on the wires, fixing them motionless or restricting their movement under external influence.

Elektrodistribuenie Sever AD holds a license for the electricity distribution activity. The company manages and maintains a power distribution network with a total length of 43,025 km and 26 substations, transferring electricity through the network for the purpose of supplying final customers both on the regulated market and on the electricity market at freely negotiated prices. The licensed territory of Elektrodistribuenie North AD is nearly 30,000 sq. km and covers 9 administrative districts in North-East Bulgaria - Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Razgrad, Ruse, Silistra, Targovishte and Shumen.
