In June 2020, amendments to the Energy Law obliged small companies in Bulgaria to switch from a regulated electricity market to a free market. In order for the process to run smoothly, a transition period was provided from October 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021, during which small businesses could navigate the situation and proceed to choose a supplier at freely negotiated prices. During this period, non-selected suppliers are supplied with electricity under a standard contract, but if they do not submit an application for selection of a supplier by June 10, 2021, according to the legal provisions, they will switch from July 1 to the Supplier of last resort. Its function is not to be left without electricity supply customers who do not have a supplier for one reason or another. Since October 1 last year, a third of ENERGO-PRO Sales's non-domestic customers have already made their choice and entered the market at freely negotiated prices, for 45,000 companies in North-East Bulgaria this step is still to come.

Liberalization in the energy sector started back in 2013, when large companies in the country entered the free market. In the next few years, the free-market principle for the supply of electricity to households is to be introduced. It is expected that legal changes in this direction will stimulate competitiveness between suppliers, which will lead to better prices and more adapted conditions for customers.

Already with the beginning of the changes concerning small businesses, ENERGO-PRO launched an information campaign in order to inform its customers in a timely manner what they need to do. The company held a number of meetings at which it informed the local authority, the Ombudsman of RB, EWRC, ME on the subject. Small companies in North-East Bulgaria were notified through letters, media announcements and information on ENERGO-PRO websites. In order to meet the legal requirements, customers can choose a supplier from among 50 licensed companies, among which is the ENERGO-PRO trading company. The energy company pays attention, before concluding an electricity supply contract, that customers monitor the exact conditions in it, the parameters included in the price, as well as the stability and many years of experience of the supplier.
