A team of ERP North revealed a large-scale theft of electricity from a livestock farm in the Dobrich village of Kotlentsi. Illegally consumed electricity amounts to more than 160,000 kWh. The farm's electricity meter was manipulated by software, whereby the energy was accumulated in an unvisualized register of the device. This was established by an inspection carried out by employees of ERP North and confirmed by the Bulgarian Institute of Metrology. Losses were reported for the electricity distribution company in excess of BGN 38,000. According to experts, the electricity consumed but not accounted for by this customer is equivalent to the monthly consumption of more than 640 households.

In recent years, there has been an increase in the illegal use of electricity. One of the main reasons for this is that the measures regulated in the regulatory framework do not have a disciplinary and deterrent effect. The most frequently identified ways of stealing electricity are software and hardware impact of electricity meters, and the proportion of high-tech manipulations has increased significantly.

The specialized teams of ERP North regularly check the technical condition of the commercial metering devices and their connection to the electricity distribution network. The company invests in modern equipment and training of employees in order to effectively detect theft and limit the illegal consumption of electricity, thereby ensuring a quality service for all loyal customers.
