More than 110 electricity thieves have been convicted since the beginning of 2015 in North-Eastern Bulgaria. In most cases, the punishment was probation. The court imposed 19 “imprisonment” sentences with deferment of execution. Effective punishments are two. This is indicated by the data of ENERGO-PRO, the electricity distribution company that serves the territory of North-East Bulgaria.

Illegal connection to the electricity distribution network, including the impact on commercial metering devices, which may lead to unaccounted consumption of electricity, is an incriminated act under the provisions of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Bulgaria. Electricity theft damages the Bulgarian energy industry and all customers who correctly pay their electricity bills.

“Illegal connections to the electricity distribution network pose a risk both for the normal functioning of the facilities and for the perpetrators themselves. ENERGO-PRO will continue to pursue a policy of zero tolerance towards such criminal acts and to provide full assistance to the police and prosecution authorities in their detection,” said Momchil Andreev, Manager of ENERGO-PRO Varna EOOD.
