The meeting, in which the mayors of municipalities also participated, was hosted by the regional governor of Shumen

The accumulated obligations of the Shumen Water Supply System for consumed electrical energy were discussed today at a meeting in the city of Shumen. At the invitation of the regional governor Ventsislav Venkov, mayors of municipalities from the district took part in the meeting.

The manager of the electricity company ENERGO-PRO Stefan Abadzhiev presented to the mayors, the Ombudsman of Shumen Ivan Kapralov and the media the current state of the debt of the water supply company. Mr. Abadzhiev explained that Shumen Water Works pays the installments on the old debt, for which a deferral agreement was concluded in September 2013 and an annex in March 2014, but delays the payment of its current obligations. Thus, as of 21.07.2014, the liabilities of the water supply company amounted to more than 990 thousand leva.

“We are seriously concerned by the fact that the debt of Shumen Water Supply does not decrease significantly during the summer months. In September last year it was one million and two hundred thousand leva, now it is close to 1 million. 10 months ago, when we signed the rescheduling agreement, we were informed by the Plumbing that the company has a cyclical nature in its work and that in the summer months it has increased revenues that will allow it to pay off the accumulated debts. But if, with the onset of the autumn period, the debt of Shumen Water Supply begins to grow again, we will be forced to take measures to limit the accumulation of new liabilities. We have developed a program to limit the power supply of objects, compiled in such a way as to cause minimal disruption to the water supply in the area. We hope we don't have to implement this program. We cannot tolerate a debt of this magnitude, as it threatens the financial stability of the electricity company, “said the manager of ENERGO-PRO.

The manager of Shumen Svetlozar Damyanov explained that by the end of August all installments under the agreement for rescheduling the old debt and the annex to it, signed in March this year, will be repaid, and at the same time the company will repay the amounts of current liabilities that have accumulated in recent months. Mr. Damyanov explained that the water supply company has taken measures to reduce electricity costs and collect water obligations from its customers, thus planning to cover the obligations to ENERGO-PRO and other suppliers.

The mayors of municipalities shared their views on solving the problem, while expressing readiness to cooperate by urging people not to delay the payment of their obligations to the water supply company.

The manager of ENERGO-PRO Stefan Abadzhiev said that he expects the water utility to comply with the plan for stable debt reduction in the period August-September and thanked the regional governor Ventsislav Venkov for the organized meeting and for his constant commitment in resolving the issue of the debt of the Shumen Water Supply System, which is of particular importance for the residents of the district.
