Substation “Center” in Ruse opened its doors for fourth-year students from the University of Ruse

A group of students from the 4th year of the University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev”, accompanied by their scientific supervisor, visited the “Center” substation in Ruse - a key facility of the electricity distribution network, which provides electricity to more than 15,000 companies and households in the central urban area. The visit is part of the long-standing tradition of Elektrodistribuenie Sever to provide an opportunity for future power engineers from the specialty “Electrical Power Engineering and Electrical Equipment” to get acquainted with the important elements for the functioning of the electrical network during their university training.

During the tour, the fourth-year students had the opportunity to get an idea in real conditions about the equipment and the way of operation of the “Center” substation. The substation is a facility in which the energy coming from the generation plants and the power transmission network is transformed from high to medium and low voltage. Thus, the transformed electrical energy reaches the final customers. The students examined the 110 kilovolt systems in the facility, including the new generation of gas circuit breakers, as well as modern digital relay protections and vacuum circuit breakers. The specialists of Elektrodistribuenie Sever introduced future power engineers to the main advantage of the “Center” substation — its compact distribution system. The small dimensions of the system, together with the two oil-filled high-voltage power lines, allow electrical energy to be distributed and transformed in a relatively small space.

The visit of the students ended in the command room of the substation, where they had the opportunity to examine the panels with central signaling, through which control over the status and operation of the individual modules in the facility is carried out.

The organized visit to the substation of Elektrodistribuenie Sever is a continuation of the student tour carried out earlier this year at the company's Dispatch Center in Ruse. The regular visits of future specialists in the energy sector, studying at the University of Ruse, are the result of effective cooperation between the electricity distribution company and the educational institution, whose staff find their professional realization in the company.
