On June 26, ENERGO-PRO launched the Group's first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Bulgaria, built in Gorna Oryahovitsa. The project is a significant step in developing modern and sustainable power infrastructure and will contribute to more efficient management and balancing of the power system.

The facility is the first of its kind for the ENERGO-PRO Group in Bulgaria.  It was built by ENERGO-PRO Bulgaria and will be managed by ENERGO-PRO Energy Services.

The system's primary function is to store electricity during periods of grid surplus and release it back during times of increased consumption or shortage. In practice, the storage system will charge from the electricity distribution network during periods of the day with lower electricity prices and discharge during hours with higher prices. This way, it will support the balancing of the power system, enhance its reliability and security, and contribute to the more efficient use of available energy resources.

The investment is valued at 4.23 million euros and was realized with co-financing under the Low-Carbon Economy Program from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan BG-RRP-4.0034 "National Infrastructure for Electricity Storage from Renewable Sources" (RESTORE). The facility has an installed capacity of 10.75 MW and a capacity of 24.31 MWh.

The expected operational life of the battery is 10 years or over 7,000 charge and discharge cycles.

With the implementation of this project, ENERGO-PRO reaffirms its commitment to introducing innovative solutions that support the transition to a more sustainable energy sector and ensure a more reliable electricity supply for customers.
