ENERGO-PRO Completes Acquisition of Hydroelectric Power Plant in Brazil, Largest Czech Investment in South America
The Czech company ENERGO-PRO received all the necessary regulatory approvals and completed the acquisition of a 100% stake in the large Baixo Iguaçu hydroelectric power plant in Brazil with a total capacity of 350 megawatts. The purchase price for the power plant, built in 2019 on the Iguazu River in the state of Paraná, exceeds 260 million euros. This makes the deal the largest Czech investment in South America in history. Baixo Iguaçu is already the largest power plant in the ENERGO-PRO group in terms of installed capacity.
The completion of the acquisition represents another important milestone in the company's strategic expansion in Latin America. The successful acquisition of seven smaller power plants with a total capacity of 90 MW in 2024 was followed by the acquisition of a modern and efficient hydroelectric plant with long-term purchase agreements. The company is also building a new Chorreritas hydroelectric plant in Colombia, which is expected to be commissioned in 2026.
“The expansion of our portfolio in Latin America is a strategic step in the geographical diversification of our group. This strengthens our resilience to hydrological, geopolitical and economic fluctuations,” said Jakub Feiffer, CEO of ENERGO-PRO Group.
With the acquisition of the hydroelectric power plant “Baixo Iguaçu”, the installed capacity of ENERGO-PRO amounts to 1850 MW. The company now operates 54 hydropower plants in five countries around the world — Bulgaria, Georgia, Turkey, Spain and Brazil.
