ERP North has completed over 50% of planned installations for the "Safe Sky for Birds in Northeast Bulgaria" project

ERP North has reached a key milestone in the "Safe Sky for Birds in Northeast Bulgaria" project, with over 50% of the planned installation work now complete. The project is being implemented under the European Union's LIFE program in partnership with the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) and aims to reduce the risk of electrocution and collisions between birds and power distribution infrastructure.

Since the project began, ERP North teams have been systematically securing overhead power lines in areas with high concentrations of protected bird species. Bird protection devices are being installed to prevent birds from coming into contact with live components, alongside markers (diverters) that improve the visibility of power lines and reduce the risk of collisions.

This progress is a significant step toward the project's primary goal: protecting 16 globally endangered bird species by applying effective technical solutions to the power distribution infrastructure. Beyond the benefits to biodiversity, these measures also contribute to a more reliable power grid by reducing outages caused by bird contact with equipment.

Work will continue across various regions of Northeast Bulgaria until the project's completion, in accordance with the established plan. In addition to technical measures, the project includes monitoring the effectiveness of these solutions, public awareness campaigns, and joint initiatives with experts from the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds.

The project is scheduled to conclude in November 2027. By that time, a total of 10,200 utility poles will have been secured and 2,000 diverters installed across 28 Natura 2000 project zones and key corridors between special protection areas.
